Subtask 1: COVID-19 Questionnaires

Leaders:
Vivi Schlünssen (Denmark), Damien McElvenny (United Kingdom), Jean-Baspist Du Prel (Germany)

Currently, COVID-19 questionnaires are developed all over the globe to assess e.g. risk factors, prognostic factors and consequences of the COVID-19 epidemic. OMEGA-NET has together with the EU funded EPHOR project developed a first version of two COVID-19 questionnaires in order to facilitate the use of joint questions. The first is a short general questionnaire covering a key aspect of the coronavirus pandemic, including COVID-19 symptoms, demographic, Use of PPE, financial effects, work-based risk factors, psychosocial risk factors and personal evaluation of the impact of COVID-19. The second questionnaire focuses on occupational risk factors for SARS-CoV-2 infection and COVID-19 disease.

Second versions of the two questionnaires will be provided after input from OMEGA-NET and EPHOR participants. Furthermore, both OMEGA-NET and EPHOR will provide repositories for other available COVID-19 related questionnaires.

Subtask 2: COVID-19 JEM

Leader:
Susan Peters (The Netherlands)

Occupation may be an important factor in COVID-19 infections, but its contribution to the total burden of the COVID-19 pandemic is unknown. We aim to develop a tool to assess the risk of infection by COVID-19 in the workplace at the general population level. The job-exposure matrix (C19-JEM) will be based on expert assessment for each ISCO-08 job code. The JEM will consist of six dimensions that affect the exposure, as well as two social factors, and will be country specific.

Subtask 3: COVID-19 as Occupational Disease

Leader:
Kurt Straif (Spain)

This subtask group is undertaking a descriptive summary on current national legislation on COVID-19 as a recognized Occupational Disease, resulting in a position paper aiming for a better harmonisation and more comprehensive coverage and compensation across European countries.

Next steps may include an evidence synthesis (and meta-analysis) of published articles on occupational risk factors for COVID-19 to support broader recognition of COVID-19 as an Occupational Disease (tertiary prevention) and to inform about high-risk groups and priorities for vaccination strategies (primary prevention).
